| The membership
of the Jamaican Association is comprised of two groups of individuals.
Some are listed on our membership list and some from time to
time access the many events, benefits and services that the
JCA offer.
What both groups have in common is one or
both of the following; Being Born in Jamaica or related by
birth to ancestors who were born in Jamaica; Share a sense
of camaraderie with all things Jamaican.
The JCA was originally comprised on the
most part of a group of professionals, mostly teachers and
nurses. Over the years, these categories continue to represent
some of the membership however, the membership profile continues
to change with immigration and population turn over (births
and deaths).
Today at least 40% of the JCA membership
would fall into the professional category, 30% would represent
seniors/retired individuals and 30% would represent other
occupations. This will change over the next three years as
the classification of immigrants from Jamaica also changes.
We will see the percentage of the membership categorized
as professionals grow by 50%. This would result in a future
profile of 60% professional at least, with 25% retired and
15% other professions. At the present the age categories
of our membership are as follows:
• 20%, Youth 25 years and under
• 10%, Adult 25 – 35 years
• 30%, Adult 35 - 55 years
• 10%, Adult 55 – 65 years
• 30%, Seniors/Retired, 65 years and over
Events planned by the Membership Services
Committee include;

Jamaica’s Independence), The Black History Church

the responsibility to keep the membership informed of
