| MISSION
STATEMENT
The Women’s Committee of the Jamaican
Canadian Association (JCA) works to advance women’s
full participation and equality in all aspects of the JCA
and the wider community, including decision-making and leadership
roles.
OBJECTIVES & ROLES:
- Provide a supporting environment for
the growth and development of women of African and
Caribbean descent.
- Provide opportunities
to educate the JCA membership on women’s
equality issues.
- Advocate on issues impacting women’s
equity rights including economic, social, cultural, and civil
rights.
- Mobilize women’s participation on issues
and activities pertaining to women’s equity rights.
- Participate
in the JCA’s fundraising activities.
- Initiate
special projects, network and liaise with other women’s
groups and serve as a resource group.
- Sensitize
and promote political awareness of women’s equity
rights and issues at the JCA and
in the wider community.
- Utilize resources
that address and promote issues affecting women.
- Operate
within the guidelines of the JCA.
- Assume overall responsibility
for issues impacting women’s
lives within the JCA membership and
wider community.
- Provide a gender equality perspective
on the work and function of the association, including
the Board and community, locally, nationally and internationally.
- Advance
the full participation and equality of the JCA women in
all aspects of the Association
and the wider community.
- Promote educational opportunities
through seminars, forums, workshops, conferences, guest
speakers, round table discussions, film presentations and
articles in the JCA newsletter
to educate the JCA membership and the wider community about
issues impacting
on women, the family and the community.
- Promote the
visibility of the association and the committee by organizing
events to commemorate International
Women’s Day, which
includes the Women Recognizing Women Program
and Person’s
Day.
MEETINGS:
The Women’s Committee meets on the second Monday of each month
from September to June from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the JCA. All are welcomed.
